Binge eating is not a
willpower problem.

It is a loop with known mechanics, and the mechanics can be learned. Soleo is a 20-chapter course written from the clinical literature, plus the three tools you use on the days it is hard: an urge log, a binge-free timer, and somewhere private to keep your reasons.

  • 20 chapters, 140 lessons
  • 381 citations you can open
  • Works fully offline
  • No account, no sign-up
  • No ads, no tracking

No calorie counts, no weight targets, no meal plans. The course treats dieting as part of what drives the cycle, so the app never asks you to restrict.

The argument

The loop that produces a binge is boringly predictable. That is the good news.

Almost everyone arrives believing the problem is discipline. It is usually this instead — and every step in it has been studied, described and taught for decades.

  1. 01

    Restriction

Skipped meals, cutting out foods, eating less than you need — whether it is called a diet or not.

  2. 02

    Biological drive

The body responds to under-eating exactly as it is built to: intense, specific cravings that willpower is not designed to outlast.

  3. 03

    The binge

Eating that feels out of control, usually fast, usually alone, usually of the foods that were off-limits.

  4. 04

    Shame, then stricter rules

The response to a binge is almost always a promise to restrict harder — which is the first step of the same loop.

“Your brain runs almost exclusively on glucose. Restricting carbs triggers urgent survival signalling — intense cravings for sugar and starch that willpower cannot override. Binge eating on carbs after restriction is the body working correctly.”From Chapter 2, The Biology — one of 140 lessons in the app

Inside the app

A course to read, and three tools you will actually use

Learn

20 chapters, written from the literature

140 lessons covering the biology and psychology of binge eating, the diet–binge cycle, CBT and DBT tools, structured eating, body image, shame and self-compassion, co-occurring conditions, and what professional treatment involves. Every numbered marker in the text opens the source it came from.

  • Read it or listen to it — text-to-speech on every page
  • Flashcards and a quiz after each lesson
  • Chapter 1 is free, in full, including the flashcards and quiz

Track

Log an urge in about ten seconds

Intensity, what triggered it, what you did, and what happened. Short enough to actually do in the moment — which is the only reason the data is ever any good.

  • Triggers and coping tools you can edit, rename or add to
  • Outcomes: resisted, delayed, partial, gave in — all four are normal
  • Every entry stays on your phone
The Log an Urge screen in Soleo, with intensity 7 selected, a stress trigger, and a partial outcome

Patterns

The urges turn out to have a shape

After a few weeks the log stops being a diary and starts being evidence: which hours are dangerous, which triggers dominate, and whether your success rate is moving.

  • Peak hours across the day, not just totals
  • Top triggers and the coping tools that actually worked for you
  • Success rate and average intensity over 7, 14, 30 and 90 days
The Patterns screen in Soleo showing urges navigated, average intensity, a peak-urge-times chart and a top-triggers breakdown

Streak

A binge-free timer that counts up, not down

Live to the second, with milestones and a recovery timeline of changes that begin within hours rather than months. You can set the start date backwards, and you can turn the whole thing off if counting is not good for you.

  • Record a slip with a note, without the app treating it as failure
  • Milestones from your first day through to a year
  • Optional — the entire counter can be switched off in Settings

My Why

The reasons, kept where you can find them at 11pm

A private journal of what you are doing this for, in your words and your photographs. It is the one screen the app will offer you after a hard night, if you have asked it to.

  • Text and photo entries, marked as favourites
  • Photos are copied into the app's own storage so they survive
  • Nothing is uploaded — there is nowhere for it to go

Evidence

You can check every claim in it

The 140 lessons carry 381 numbered citations between them, drawn from 93 distinct sources — textbooks, clinical guidelines and peer-reviewed papers. Tap a marker in the text and the reference opens, with a link straight to the publication.

This is the part almost no app in this category will show you. It is also the honest limit of what the app is: a well-sourced education, not a diagnosis and not treatment.

Privacy

Nothing you write in it leaves your phone

There is no account, no sign-up and no server. The app works with aeroplane mode on, because there is nothing for it to reach.

No account

No email, no password, no profile. You open it and it works.

No analytics

No tracking SDK, no event logging, no advertising identifiers. There is no dashboard showing what you did.

Fully offline

Every chapter is inside the download. The only network call the app ever makes is to process a purchase.

Yours to export

One file with everything in it, to keep as a backup or to bring to a clinician. Sharing it is your decision, not a default.

The flip side, stated plainly: because nothing is uploaded, nobody can restore your history if you delete the app without exporting it first.

Safety

An app is not the whole of recovery

Binge eating disorder is treatable, and the treatments with the strongest evidence behind them involve a person, not a phone. Chapter 18 of the course is about exactly that — what the options are, what happens in them, and how to start.

What this app is, and what it is not

Soleo is educational self-help. It is not a substitute for professional medical care, and it does not diagnose or treat any condition. If you are struggling, please speak to a qualified professional.

Soleo is not a crisis service and it cannot see what you write in it. If you need to speak to someone now, or you want help finding treatment, there is a list of helplines and services here.

Questions

The things people actually ask

Is this a diet app?

No, and it is built to be the opposite of one. There are no calorie counts, no weight targets, no meal restrictions and no food logging. The course treats the diet–binge cycle as part of what causes binge eating, so a tool that asked you to restrict would be working against its own content.

Is it a replacement for treatment?

No. It is educational self-help. It does not diagnose or treat any condition, and it is not a crisis service. Chapter 18 is about professional treatment specifically — what the options are, what happens in them, and how to start. If you are working with a clinician, the app can export your data to share with them.

What happens to my data?

It stays on your phone. There is no account, no sign-up and no server to send anything to — the app works with aeroplane mode on. Your urge logs, streak, journal entries and photographs are not uploaded, which also means nobody at Soleo can see them, restore them or hand them to anyone else. Back them up yourself with the export in Settings.

What does “381 citations” actually mean?

The 140 lessons carry 381 numbered citations between them, drawn from 93 distinct sources — textbooks, clinical guidelines and peer-reviewed papers. Tapping a marker in the text opens the reference with a link to the publication, so you can check any claim in the course against its source rather than taking it on trust.

Who writes the course?

Soleo is made by one independent developer. The course is written from the clinical literature and every claim carries its source, which is why the citations are tappable rather than listed at the back. It has not been reviewed by a clinician, and the app says so — that is exactly why the sourcing is visible.

Do I have to use the streak counter?

No. Counting days is helpful for some people and stressful for others, so the whole binge-free timer can be switched off in Settings, along with its notifications. Nothing else in the app depends on it.

What does it cost, and can I try it first?

Chapter 1 is free in full, including its flashcards and quiz, along with three urge logs a week, the timer and one journal entry. Premium is $9.99 a month, $39.99 a year with a 7-day free trial, or $99.99 once for lifetime access. Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google and cancelled in your store account, not here.

Is it on Android?

Yes. Binge Eating Recovery is on Google Play and on the App Store, with the same content and the same prices on both.

Chapter 1 is free, in full.

Lessons, flashcards and quiz, plus the timer and three urge logs a week — with no card, no account and nothing to cancel.
